30 May 1945 – 11 December 2009
BEGINNING OF MY JOURNEY
I was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 1987 at the age of 42. I underwent a mastectomy, followed by 6 months of chemotherapy.
DIAGNOSIS OF SECONDARIES
In September 2007 an episode of severe back pain initiated a visit to my GP. Following a series of bone scans, MRI’s and various other medical tests I was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer. I was devastated after having been Cancer free for over 20 years.
I am currently undergoing a second course of chemotherapy and began taking Femara 4 months ago. A short course of radiotherapy has successfully relieved the lower back and hip pain that initially led to my diagnosis.
I find I am coping with my current treatment as nausea is not a side effect of the chemotherapy I am receiving. I am slowly getting back to living my life, exercising regularly and beginning to make plans for my future.
ABOUT ME
I am living in Brisbane at present whilst undergoing treatment, however I hope that I will soon be able to return home to Lismore in northern NSW.
ABOUT MY FAMILY
My husband is at home running a cattle property and I am supported by 4 daughters who all live in Brisbane. My son lives in Sydney and keeps in regular contact. I am fortunate to have 6 adorable grandchildren with another on the way. Family support and a positive attitude will help me get through the next chapter of my life.
Bone Pain
Some women have found the use of an electric blanket very helpful for bone pain, particularly during the colder months.
